Fort McMurray Wildfire Information and Resources

Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the wildfires in the Fort McMurray area this week.

We would like to assure our clients that the insurance companies we partner with have excellent catastrophic loss teams in place, and we will provide information, resources, support, and action to help see you through the challenging days and months ahead.

Sadly, our province and our firm have experienced this before—with the Slave Lake fires in 2011 and the Calgary floods of 2013—so we are prepared to handle this type of event, and we have crisis and claims management procedures in place to ensure our clients get the attention they require.

Our in-house claims advocate, Derek Dick, is on standby to help manage each claim as it comes in, and we have adjusters ready to begin the claims process as soon as we are able to access the sites. Your account executives will also be available anytime to address any questions or concerns you may have.

Structures can be rebuilt, and our job is to ensure your insurance policy responds as it should to make that process as smooth as possible. But at this time we want to focus on the people of Fort McMurray who have lost their homes and need our help. Our city has always pulled together to make miracles happen, and we would like to lead by example by supporting the Canadian Red Cross in their efforts and our team will also be collecting food and funds for the Edmonton Food Bank today and tomorrow.

HOW TO REPORT A CLAIM:

Though you may not be able to assess the damage to your property due to the mandatory evacuation, it’s important to begin the claims reporting process now. For claims reporting during 8:30am-4:30pm, follow your normal claims reporting guidelines outlined by your service team. If you do not have the contact information of your service team available, call our toll free number at 1-800-665-5243 to be directed.

For after-hours claims reporting, contact our Claims Advocate, Derek Dick, directly at 1-780-938-3998.

Remember to keep copies of your receipts for food, accommodations and other expenses for your claim.
